Explore the Morocco Pavillion at Epcot

The Tangierine Café is located in the Moroccan pavilion at Epcot. The pavilion is designed to look like a realistic Moroccan city and features a Minaret, which was designed with the help of the Moroccan government.  Native Moroccan artists and artisans assisted in the construction of the pavilion to ensure the supreme quality of the mosaic art and geometric patterns seen throughout the area.  As you go through the winding alleys, you will notice the beautiful archways, green roofs, and terra cotta tiles. A significant feature is the replica of the Bab Boujouloud gate found in the old city area, also known as the Medina.  The flower-filled garden in the courtyard area features olive trees, banana plants, citrus trees, date palms, and a beautiful fountain. The garden area is also where you will find live entertainment, such as Moroccan musicians, acrobatic performances, and belly dancers.  The Gallery of Arts and History exhibit various unique Moroccan artifacts, costumes, and artwork. In addition, there are multiple exhibits, such as the Race Against the Sun: Ancient Technique to Modern Competition which details the history of the ancient inhabitants of the Sahara called the Berbers.  Do you enjoy shopping for unique items? The Morocco pavilion at Epcot is filled with shops where you can purchase jewelry, brass, mirrors, rugs, sconces, lanterns, cooking utensils, shoes, clothing, and more.  The Tangier Traders shop has fine jewelry, traditional shoes and clothing, handmade daggers, and camel bone mirrors. The Brass Bazaar shop has mirrors, silver decorative plates, brass, handmade baskets, native instruments, ceramic tiles, and mosaic fountains.  You can find beautiful handmade colorful hand-knotted rugs, Marrakesh wall scones, and glass lanterns at the Casablanca Carpets shop.  All shops also sell traditional Moroccan items such as a couscous pot, wind chimes, rose water, fez hats, and henna lamps. Make sure you scour each shop to find treasures you can’t find at the other shops. The store staff is accommodating and will help you find the items you genuinely want, offering excellent gift ideas for your family and friends.  Tip: Look for the hidden Mickey’s located outside the gift shop wall. It isn’t easy to see at first, but you will notice it when you see three Mickey-shaped baskets.  Navigating through the courtyard of the Morocco pavilion at Epcot allows you to smell the incredible food from the restaurants. Make sure you get to the Tangierine Café to enjoy delicious dishes and desserts.

Restaurant Décor in the Tangierine Café

The exterior of the building has beautifully designed Moroccan doors that feature a fantastic archway. As you enter the restaurant, you are met with authentic décor, colorful mosaic tiles, and vibrant paint on the walls.  The chairs are rod iron with colorful seat cushions and a bright tabletop. Everywhere you look on the walls and ceiling has a colorful tile, accent, or incredible Moroccan accent that makes you feel like you are actually in the country.  During the day, the bright sunshine beams through the doorway and illuminates the decorative archway creating a beautiful hue that makes the handmade rugs hanging on the wall pop with more color.  As you stand in line waiting to order, look down at the mosaic tile floor and capture a picture of the artwork.

Review of the Cuisine at the Tangierine Café

Let’s taste test a few items from the Tangierine Café menu.  Mediterranean Flatbread This warm fresh flatbread is topped with mozzarella, olives, artichokes, and feta cheese. The flavors mix well together and create a satisfying bite every time.  Panna Cotta While panna cotta is a typical Italian dessert, it suits this venue perfectly. The sweet, creamy texture features pistachio, rose water, and vanilla flavors. This decadent dessert is a tasty treat and excellent on a hot day.  Grilled Kebabs These tasty kebabs feature Moroccan spiced lamb, lemon-garlic chicken, and beef tenderloin tips. This dish also comes with couscous and tomato onion salad. The garlic aioli sauce is excellent when poured over the entire dish, including the couscous. Ask for extra aioli sauce if you plan to dip each bite. This protein-packed dish is an excellent option for lunch or dinner.  Hummus  This chickpea hummus has a slightly gritty texture that holds well when placed on the stone-baked Moroccan bread. The hummus is seasoned with garlic, lemon, and other spices for that authentic taste. The hummus and bread is also excellent protein snack that is easy to carry as you explore the Moroccan pavilion.  This restaurant also serves a variety of healthy salads, rotisserie chicken, mint tea, coffee, beer, and the super popular baklava dessert.  The mint tea is delicious, and the robust flavor puts a bounce in your step. The tea is also an excellent pairing for most dishes on the menu. Make sure you give it a try!  Overall, Tangierine Café is a great place to grab a flavorful meal while immersing yourself in Moroccan culture.
