Live Disney World Weather Radar

All four Disney World theme parks are only a few miles apart, so they share the same forecast. But Florida’s afternoon storms are very localized. It’s common for one park to get a downpour while another stays dry. Use the radar to see where the rain is right now and which way it’s moving.

Park-by-Park Rainy Day Tips

When lightning is nearby, Disney may temporarily pause outdoor attractions and cancel some outdoor shows. Indoor rides and shows keep running, and they’re the best way to wait out a storm. Here’s where to head in each park.

Magic Kingdom

Likely to pause: outdoor coasters and spinners like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Dumbo and Astro Orbiter, plus water rides like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Head indoors to: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, “it’s a small world,” Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Space Mountain and Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.

EPCOT

Watch out for: World Showcase is a long, mostly uncovered walk, so storms hit harder here. Test Track’s outdoor section can pause for lightning.
Head indoors to: Spaceship Earth, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Soarin’ and Living with the Land in The Land pavilion, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and Frozen Ever After. Many World Showcase pavilions also have indoor shops, films and dining.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Likely to pause: outdoor rides like Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers. Outdoor shows, including Fantasmic!, may be cancelled in storms.
Head indoors to: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Toy Story Mania! and the theater shows.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Likely to pause: Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids. Kilimanjaro Safaris runs in the rain but can pause for lightning.
Head indoors to: Avatar Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey and Festival of the Lion King.
Bonus: the animals are often more active once a storm passes and the air cools off, so it’s a great time to ride the safari or explore the trails.

Disney World Weather Tips

  • Expect afternoon storms in summer. From late spring through early fall, quick pop-up thunderstorms often roll in mid-afternoon and clear within an hour or so. Plan indoor attractions or a sit-down meal for that window.
  • Bring your own poncho. It’s far cheaper than buying one in the parks, and lines often shrink when the rain starts.
  • Stay ahead of the heat. Drink plenty of water (quick-service locations will give you free cups of ice water), wear sunscreen and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
  • Pack a layer in winter. Mornings and evenings can get surprisingly cool, so bring a light jacket for rope drop and fireworks.
  • Watch hurricane season. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. If a storm is in the forecast, check Disney’s official updates for park hours and closures.

Attraction lineups change over time. Check the My Disney Experience app for current operating status on the day of your visit.
